Tamil Heritage Month 2026:
OUR LAND, OUR ROOTS: CELEBRATING
TAMIL ANCESTRAL SPACES AND TIMES

What does the official poster for Tamil Heritage Month 2026 represent?

The poster, designed by Ashmitha Ravichandran with artwork by Jeeva Nathan, beautifully encapsulates the Tamil Land.

At the heart of the Tamil language is the letter “ழ (La)”, a sound unique to Tamil that symbolizes its depth and connection to land and place. The letter forms a word map highlighting Tamil Eelam and Tamil Nadu as ancestral homelands, while acknowledging the wider regions and global journeys that shape the Tamil diaspora today.

This theme invites reflection on what “home” means to each of us. Drawing from the Tolkāppiyam, one of the oldest Tamil texts, it honours the five classical land types—Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal, and Paalai—that shaped Tamil life, culture, and identity.

“Our Roots, Our Land” celebrates Tamil Heritage Month by honouring our history, culture, and contributions, while reflecting on the past, engaging with the present, and envisioning the future—grounded wherever we are in the world.
